After "The Antics Roadshow" yesterday, SAN now brings you "Graffiti Wars" wherever you are in the world.
Graffiti Wars examines street art and graffiti, and the creative tensions and conflicts within this artistic arena especially with Robbo and Banksy.
It's a bit one sided towards Robbo and hopefully Mr B will get to reply soon!
Get well Robbo!

Hi, the video is now not available at vimeo and I could not watch it on the website of channel 4 either. Will you fix it or is it a copyright issue?

ReplyDeleteSay what you want but a man's in a coma. That's wrong. Get well Robbo from Manchester. TEAM ROBBO. Just a thought though, Robbo's work's ALL original and Banksy stole his which no self respecting artist does. So I say it once again TEAM ROBBO.
ReplyDeleteAnd for those of you quick to forget it was Blek La Rat. GET WELL ROBBO.
ReplyDeleteWould you like some cheese with that whine? cheezy for sheezy. lol
ReplyDeletethisis just a robbo documentary....not banksy vs robbo at all. still good though
ReplyDeleteok i'm defo team robbo after this. banksy's cool but he's such a fucking douche going after robbo like that. & u all know banksy did it

ReplyDeletemmmm interesting still think Banksy work has something to say where as Robbo stuff just says im a tagger, a good tagger but just a tagger.
ReplyDeleteRespect the history!!! Do Not Cross!!!
ReplyDeleteThis plastic things on Banksy's works.. OMFG!!!
We will never forget ROBBO...Get well mate!!
You (uk) NEED to respect your King..
But stop this stupid war...
Bansky need to show some respect..
Whatever the commercial side of the things..
I'm not convinced at the end where Robbo tells us that Banksy has gone over his peice again. It looks nothing like a banksy.
ReplyDeleteThere is no war. Banksy is the most successful and well known street artist in the world. Why should he care. Robbo is fortunate to gain credibility off of Banksy's back. Pretty good going.
For the record, No-one is original. Banksy is stole some styles from Black le Rat. Big deal.
Banksy has some original ideas within content, that's what i respect.
I hate over dramatized, pretentious documentaries, for fuck sake it only picture on walls.
Hope your getting better Robbo.
dont get caught in Birmingham!
ReplyDeleteHOAX
ReplyDeletecongrats on keeping this up - taken down on every other site i could find!! Further reading here :http://www.jonhammer.com/blog/tag/graffiti-wars-documentary/
ReplyDeleteCalling this a "War"... whatever. The dramatic music is so stupid and cheap. You brits are starting to ape the american style of "news". I hope Robbo recovers but good god man, keep your mouth shut and just make the at. Don't speak, you sound like a child. And as far as Banksy, he broke through to a wider audience and created the reason for this "documentary", the reason anyone outside your niche world knows who Robbo or Blek is, and the market that is now sustaining all of the "street artists". All the haters spew and spew, and then the second they are able, they jump on the bandwagon. The emporer wears no clothes, Banksy made it clowning the art world and opened the door for you to do the same, so just make your art and get your money and shut up with this childish "war" stuff.

ReplyDeleteRobbo had his head so far up his ass. what an egoist. He beaked Banksy for selling out and doing shows now that he never would have been doing without the publicity from Banksy. Banksy stole from Blek? Who cares all artist steal all Blek did was paint rats Banksy gave them content. Banksy clearly doesn't care about and rules he just loves stirring shit up.
ReplyDelete^^most of you have no idea what you are talking about.
ReplyDeleteanyone else notice at 3:18 they added a rattle to a burner can lol
i think robbo and banksy should be mates and stop fighting coz its about the art not where it is just have fun and do it
ReplyDeleteThis isn't an objective documentary.
ReplyDeleteThis is a documentary about Robbo,
and his fight with Banksy. Not Robbo VS Banksy,
they don't have the same chances here. Banksy
is made really negative and it looks like he's a total asshole and doesn't know anything about art. I'm team Robbo, that's for sure, but Banksy isn't shit. This docu isn't honest. And get well soon, Robbo ! xx from Antwerp (Belgium)
Robbo, 'Team R☮BBO' has inspired me so much, I believe he is a hard worker and takes dedication into his artwork, where as BANKSY, is a absoulete 'NOB' he steals artwork, he's not completely original and best of all, HE THINKS HE's BETTER THAN R☮BBO. 'Robbo get well soon!'
ReplyDeleteRecovery King Robbo! No matter istant gained fame but the legacy effort. Legitimate Robbo Robbo forever
ReplyDeleteWho said Banksy went after him? Why couldn't of it been just a bunch of fu<king idoits who wanted to end this war on banksy?
ReplyDeleteGet well soon K!ng robbo, Get well soon.
-L3wis.
Robbo is a dumbass who's about to die and will only be remembered because of bansky
ReplyDeleteyou're an idiot
Deletea real idiot, with no balls thats why your anonymous DICKHEAD
Deletei love robbo always have and i go around the streets of wales spraypainting his stuff all over wales with free hand but bansky is a dick for what he done to robbo no one likes bansky hes just a person who thinks hes good at doing what he dose
ReplyDeleteSome of the comments on here are fucking retarded. "i love robbo always have and i go around the streets of wales spraypainting his stuff all over wales with free hand but bansky is a dick for what he done to robbo no one likes bansky hes just a person who thinks hes good at doing what he dose" <<< Prime example; He's just a person who thinks he's good at doing what he does.. How much brain power did that take? loool
ReplyDeleteIts Art not War. Why do you have to pick sides and cause petty squabbles saying the same shit over and over, trying to be clever by using. Both those boys are probably laughing after having both their works publicised as a result of this "Feud". Both artists are amazing and creative for their own very different reasons.
The thing that i found most astonishing about the documentary is how that spacka in charge of taking down the graffiti can say that Street Art is perfectly acceptable, beautiful infact, if it "adds value" to the area, but traditional graffiti is a heinous crime against society. Could there be any more of a grey area there? Just another thing the fat cats in charge (fuck knows who's really pulling the strings) trying to put a price on things that shouldn't have. Clear example of how the world we live in is fucked up beyond belief.
Hope you make a full recovery Robbo, big up
**trying to be clever by saying stuff you picked out of a documentary we have all watched.
DeleteDespite the documentary's subjectivity in trying to embellish the hypocrisy in distinguishing street art from graffiti, I see a very clear difference. And I'll be the unpopular commentator on this site by saying that I agree with the city counsel, a piece of street art decorating my block would add to it, I'd enjoy it, but I wouldn't like graffiti painted on the side of the building next door. Robbo makes great graffiti, but most common graffiti doesn't look anything like that (I live in NYC). So allowing graffiti "artists" free reign in the city is quite different from preserving Banksy works.
DeleteYyour mum loves u john xxx
DeleteI love how the whole shitfest is because Banksy painted over Robbo's already pissed on tag (Also love how they show the renewed version first, as though Robbo's shit was fresh), and here he is painting over someone else's stuff in solid black paint. Genius.
ReplyDeleteAgree! The "Submitted by Banksy" caption under the 2006 photograph of Robbo's work suggests it's from Banksy's perspective, as if that's not the factual account of what it looked like. As if the documentary producers couldn't find a single picture from anyone else to avoid that caption. Puh-lease.

ReplyDeleteJust some thoughts from someone who stands completely outside of the whole Graffiti-Street-Arts world.
ReplyDeleteI, as most people, don't have a clue about graffitis, tags, street arts. When I walk along the streets of my city and look at the walls, most of them look grey and depressing...just like in any other city all over the world. I love it when I see some fine art works which lighten up the townscape and my mood. Something that makes me stop, that gives me something to think about. Something admirable. Art!
And here's my point: The vast majority of citizens have no connection to the codex of graffiti. They either like what they look at or they don't. For most people outside of the small niche of the graffiti community, many pieces just look crappy. They are mono-colored or just some tags written on the wall. They convey no message (except maybe "fuck society"). As an average citizen, an "outsider", I can understand why most people consider those graffitis as vandalism.
I like to look at high-class graffitis. They are beautiful and they make the city look better. But still, they don't make me stop and think about society.
If you ask an average person what he/she thinks about, let's say, Bansky's stencil "What are you looking at" in front of a CCTV, and the world's best Graffiti, he/she will say that Bansky's work is more thought-provoking. It stirs up emotions. The high-class graffiti does indeed look great, it does show talent, it does get rid of the city's pesky grey. But in the end, it's just colorful letters saying the name of a crew or the synonym of the artist. Where is the message? Fame? Street credits? Who gives a damn outside of that little niche?
I don't care if people use stencils. I don't care who copied whom, I don't even care who came up with the idea originally. All I care about is that the city I live in becomes a better place to be and society stops for a minute to think about itself. Isn't that what art is all about?
you have no idea what you're rambling on about do you...my advice don't leave your house
DeleteI identify with your post 100%. I'll recopy my reply to another post: Despite the documentary's subjectivity in trying to embellish the hypocrisy in distinguishing street art from graffiti, I see a very clear difference.
DeleteQutoe: "you have no idea what you're rambling on about do you...my advice don't leave your house"
DeleteThat's exactly the kind of message I'm "rambling" about ^^. "Don't leave your house"? Really? What are you, the mafia?
As I said, I don't care about your self-imposed code. Most graffitis have as much in common with art as my post has in common with real literature. Most graffitis are just claiming territory...like dogs marking their territory.
And to repeat myself: Yes, Robo has skills, he makes great graffitis. Still, the majority of graffitis looks nothing like that. Not to mention tags which are simply an eyesore.
graffiti is not for the public. it is for us and our peers. we dont give a fuck about your opinion.
Delete/no disrespect, but i tell you now every true writer thinks that.
we dont want to be accepted by society. graf is ours. GTFO
the guy above couldn't have said it any better.....
Deleteand OP you're a fucking idiot your mother should have flushed you at birth your opinions are irrelevant now go kill yourself
You just gotta love the internet.
DeleteI like the quality of the statements around here.
Whoever said "don't feed the trolls" was wrong...this is so much fun ^^.
I totally agree with the first post. Its perfectly reasonable. If graffiti was just for the taggers they'd be tagging the walls of their own homes to begin with.
DeleteI knew both Robbo & Banksy personally and have to agree with the comment you made regarding thought provoking etc. That said, I don't think either of these guys got into this to change the world but to do something they enjoyed. One got lucky, the other didn't. Yes, Banksy stole his ideas but he also added his own twist to it, maybe not on all his work, but on a lot of it. His work communicates with people as you said. Robbo is a pioneer and will always be that, but what he does talks to some but not the majority. However, at the end of the documentary, its pretty clear that Robbo can also create art to a high standard when his work is put next to Banksy's work and in my humble opinion as art goes, shits on what Banksy did. Its not your standard graffitti, but serious art. It was mind blowing even though it was not thought provoking. I think the only think Robbo suffers from with regards his art, is that I don't believe he has ever had any intention to communicate with the world and keeps his political and social views to himself, whereas banksy's strength does not lie in him as an artist but as a message communicator. Best way I can think to explain what I mean is - you get an ugly girl and a pretty girl. the pretty one doesn't have to make an effort to be pretty because it's obvious, whereas the ugly one will more times than not put on tons of make up, wear the most revealing clothes and so on just to be noticed. Thats the difference between Robbo & Banksy to me. I like both but in my time knowing both personally, I've always found Robbo to be more real as a human being whereas Banksy has snaked a few people to get to where he is - luckily I distanced myself from Banksy before he could do the same to me but am happy for him that he is doing well in his career
DeleteI only found out about Robbo's accident today and am totally shocked. Hope he's doing ok!! no matter what, History can not take away what you brought to the graffitti game and you will always be respected by fellow artists a lot more than you will ever know. Banksy is a business, Robbo is Life!!
This is a Soap Opera for street and Graffiti artist... people shouldn't take sides on something that's not your problem, we just have to appreciate both artist work and respect as well.
ReplyDeleteThe behavious of the Police is not normal the CAN'T define what is art !!
ReplyDeleteAnd honestly it is a bit Hip Hop culture that is not accept, kind of racism.
Personnaly i prefer "street art" from "graffiti" but we can't say let this and remove that-
BLEK LE RAT is the real king...
ReplyDeleteLive long and return soon. I need some competition.
ReplyDeleteno, seriously, who decided on the music? it is AWFUL!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't Bansky just admit to inspiration ? ... And how about a collaboration ...
ReplyDeleteRobbo in prayers!
Delete.. And how about a collaboration ...
Deletewhere's the fun in that? I enjoy the rivalry.
Robbo peice was old but certainly not good. It's just stupid graffiti territory "my dick is bigger than your dick" male confrontational bullcrap. I like street art that says something, not someones dumbass name on a wall. Plus robbo sold out at the end and started doing gallery shows, so hes just as bad as banksy.
ReplyDeletehe said clearly he has kids to feed
DeleteI'm guessing you have a job? If you had a choice would you be working or doing what you enjoy? If not, then any of us working in jobs we don't enjoy are also sellouts
He did what he enjoyed for years and now has responsibilities. That in itself took balls!! Life changes and so must we!!
Ur sister loves u john there 4ever xxx
ReplyDeleteBanksy is a shit rat scrawny runt, same as all the dicks who big him up
ReplyDeleteI cannot see how people are defending banksy. Hes has broken the rules you don't go over a better piece and you don't en-corporate other writers pieces in to yours. secondly banksy must know he has copied blek its no coincidence that they both use stencils and the both draw rats. also inst it obvious that banksy couldn't win and took the cowards way out.
ReplyDeleteteam robbo get well soon bruv
This is really interesting, been reading the post but my dam sound is bust so can't watch the video. It's really interesting to see how much is going on in the area of Graffiti Wars. I see it popping up all over the web in art news websites and blogs.
ReplyDeleteFuck Team Robbo, fuck team Banksy, this a stupid, trivial discussion. So they are in a graffiti war, so what? I appreciate both styles of art and I think they both deserve to be treated as artists. Their attitude is really childish, a pretty common thing among graffiti artists sadly. I think we can a agree both of them are a bit idiotic in their own way; the most reasonable, down-to-earth, cool person I've seen in this documentary is Eine lol.
ReplyDeleteThe most humble and real aerosol artist I've ever come accross is ARTFUL DODGER.
DeleteI think the opening intro text, spoken by the sexy-voiced narrator, needs to be modified slightly to be a little more truthful.
ReplyDeleteThe original text is below:
"This man in described by some to be one of the most important figures in counter-cultural art. But the chances are, you've never heard of him. Most of his work doesn't exists, and was painted illegally in the first place..."
But this is what it should say:
"This man in described by some, as an ass. But the chances are you've never heard of him. Because his work is shit. It involves scrawling his name repeatedly on every wall like some obsessive pervert then whining that no one appreciates him. Most of his work doesn't exist, and I think its safe to say we're all feeling pretty relieved about that."
Just seems like someone is bumsore because someone else made a living and is being clever with a medium they share. Shocker!
ReplyDeleteWith that said, get better Robbo.
calm friends, let's kill bancksy when he comes to Brazil.
ReplyDeleteLets Kill? WTF Brasileiro Paz Irmao!
ReplyDeleteAs much as i can see why Mr. Robbo was pissed off with the quote, unquote Banksy sabotage i would also like to point a few things out that went trickling through my thoughts.... firstly the Robbo piece had already been pretty much 'fucked up' even before Bansky stuck his nose in/ stencil on, Secondly in a strange sort of way Banksy re-made Robbo... in the way that more people have sat up and taken notice (for example before this documentary i had never heard of 'Robbo') but also shot himself in the foot by doing what he had done to the canal side piece as he will also have lost fans for doing this, thirdly i can see Banksy has taken lets say a tad too much inspiration from 'Blek la rat' but with the rats Bansky still has made some great work and the ideas behind some of his work is really good!.... i am afaird to say i sit on the fence in regards to team choosing shite... i do love the stencil style but can also see the talent in the free hand graffiti... one last thing i will say though is graffiti is art (we got taught about it in art at school) and as long as its....erm lets say tasteful for its surroundings (ie: some of a too adult topic in a play ground or near a school is probably not best)... a final also (lol sorry) i get/ got the impression Banksy is a bit off a stuck up twat...
ReplyDeletePs: given the date of when this was filmed (and having been to fucking lazy to google it just yet) idk the contionb of Robbo - so covering all bases here lol- get well and stay well :P
Both artist are Kings in there own right. Robbo however is a legend. As a freehand street artist I can respect a message, whether it be with stencil or not. Many graffiti artist can depict a message with style and form of letters to give you feeling. Life is Beautiful, or once was...
ReplyDeleteteam robbo allways have been
ReplyDeleteWould be nice to meet both Banksy and Robbo.
ReplyDeleteget well soon mate!
