Juan Salgado from Puerto Rico recently dropped into Melbourne to check out the street art scene after visiting New Zealand where he experienced some life changing inspirations. Being his first time to Melbourne, and without any connections, he hit up his great old friend Alexis Diaz that put him in touch with our great mate RONE who sorted him out with this wall. In just seven hours, he painted this tropical skull mural reflecting the economic crisis they are facing at home – “ruins of paradise” with a stylised “Maga” flower which is the iconic symbol of Puerto Rico and thorns as a nod to the New Zealand flora. Embedded in the skull are tattoos that represent his other identity as a tattoo artist, and other symbols of his tropical island home such as pineapples, palm trees and the Puerto Rican flag.
